Achievements Should Be Valued

Afghan people responded Soviet invasion by indomitable fighting spirit and turned a glorious page in our history. The iron determination of the Mujahedeen and their strong sense of piety were highly appreciable. Their blood was shed to save the religious convictions, moral principles and cultural values of our society. In other words, the martyrdom of our Mujahedeen was the lifeblood for our religious values and ethics. They fought with unfathomable sense of devotion and dedication to say “No” to colony, slavery and cruelty. Hence, their victory is a historical legacy and a glorious achievement for all - particularly for the next generation.

Undeniably, the glory and pride of one generation will pass to the next and they also will hold their heads up for the achievements their forefathers obtained. Same is the case with ignominy and the future generation will not be left untouched with its bad reputation. Now, the question is that do we respect the blood of our martyred compatriots by keeping our religious values and moral and cultural standards safe from the injury of cultural bombardments?

Currently, we are mired in the challenge the new world has put ahead of us. Our cultural values are in a serious peril of erosion. Our younger generation shows fewer tendencies towards religious instructions and cultural values. We have embraced the modern lifestyle with all its pros and cons even at the cost of our beliefs.

Virtue, which used to play a pivotal role in the life of the previous generation, has turned almost meaningless. The current style of our young girls in the streets and bazaars which is entirely irreligious mostly puts a god-fearing person in dilemma. Indeed, the susceptibility of our younger generation is a matter of great worry. Isn’t such cultural metamorphosis a flagrant disregard to the achievement of our past and to the Islamic values?

We will be held responsible, by next generation, for moving society towards a cultural change empty of Islamic values. Now, it is we to demonstrate our achievements to the future generation and bring up our children in an Islamic way. Do we have anything to boast?

Let us cherish virtue in our individual and social life. Indeed, virtue is more necessary in modern life than ever before. For example, in the past one who decided to sabotage and vandalize, could do so in a limited manner, however, currently one can cause more harm and greater destruction for the existence of modern destructive instruments. Hence, a life empty of virtue is self-destructive. Hope we live a life of virtue and pass the same honorable life to the next generation.
