Export of Afghan Fighters

Ultimately, the murmurings and claims about sending Afghan refugees to the battle field in Syria found way to one of the most popular international Wall Street Journal. The agency reported about recruitment of Afghan refugees in neighboring country Iran by Revolutionary Guard Corps to fight in defense of President Assad regime quoting from the office of Ayatollah Mohaqeq Kabuli, one of the few Afghani supreme religious leaders who has huge supporter among Shiite.

Based on the report, thousands of Afghans have been recruited so far by the encouragement of Revolutionary Guard Corps. As encouragement, anyone who goes to Syria for fight are paid five hundred US dollar per month along permission for their children to study at schools and buy houses.

The report sparked huge criticisms. The Afghan lawmakers in the upper house of the parliament ordered probe into the alleged recruitment of Afghan refugees by Iran to fight in Syria. Afghan senate house speaker, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar also asked Afghan government to seek clarification from Iran in this regard. He added that the poor Afghan refugees are recruited and sent to fight in Syria where they are killed and the government of Afghanistan should resolve the issue. Similar angers were visible in comments of Afghan social network users. A user had rightly written, not to worry if there is fight going on in Syria or Kashmir, the brave Afghan boys are always there to fight for five hundred dollars due to poverty.

Though many who are currently staying in the neighboring country often talk about such an opportunity, but due to weakness of Kabul to protect its citizens and defend from their rights, the report just remained circulating among people without finding way to Afghan Media or international media. Just a week ago, a citizen was complaining that one of his family members who is currently in Iran decided to go to Syria. When asked why? “The employment condition is not good presently in Iran and going Syria has a lot of economic benefits and at least the family will get special attention”, he responded.

Although it is certain that some Afghan refugees have gone to Syria whether under religious rhetoric or economic benefits they receive, at the present there are no measures that can stop the process. Due to uncertain political situation, the market is further spiraling downward and does not have the capacity to accept returned refugees.
