Afghan-US Relations Are Always Important

Although the message of President Obama to our president Karzai to go and meet him in Bagram was both inappropriate and against the diplomatic norms but the following events have almost normalized the tensions that resulted from this incident. It was especially absurd when a president visits a country and instead of meeting the host president, he calls upon him to come and meet him in the place according to his wishes. This act of American president was badly condemned by the political figures of the country and the refusal of president Karzai for this meeting was also lauded.

However, soon after this, American president called Mr. Karzai and the issues of mutual interest were discussed. Soon after that call, American president again called our president, as is stated by the spokesman of the president. In these telephonic conversations, both the presidents agreed to continue their efforts for strengthening the relations between the two countries while the efforts of Afghan government to hold successful elections were praised by the American president. These two conversations helped the worsening relations between the two countries to normalize. At the same time, the conversations also silenced those so-called political experts who keep criticizing the United States and are happy in bringing an end for the friendly relations of these two important allies.

It should not be forgotten here that America is an important friend of Afghanistan. There may be many in our country who may be against the American policies and their performance in last 12 years in our country but it should not be forgotten that America was the prime supporter and donor for the democratic rebuilding of the country. Without the support and assistance of our international allies, we could have never made the progress that has been made in the last 12 years of democracy and the United States was the prime stakeholder in this international assistance.

Even today, the stability and future progress of Afghanistan depends on how much the United States is going to help us in this regard. All the organs of society believe that country would fall into the hands of militants and extremists and there would be a civil war if the United States decides to completely withdraw from the country. It is also a generally accepted fact that the BSA deal is very vital for the future of our country and sooner we sign this agreement, better it would be for the stability of the country.

After considering these ground realities, it is needed that our government officials should work to improve the relations between the two countries and not give any chance to those who look for a minor chance to worsen the relations between them.
