A Second Round of Success

The second round of presidential polls finished far successful than the expectations of many, despite all the fears and threats. It is natural that the repeated process of anything may result in decreased interest and same is true for elections. In all parts of the world, the second round of election is not always as successful as the first round because second rounds make the people tired and thus they show comparatively less interest. It was discussed in these lines before as well that our new government should work to eliminate the second round of presidential elections because this process gives birth to so many complications and we can adopt the system of single round as is successfully implemented by large number of modern democracies. However, despite the increasing militant activities of Taliban and their threats, the second round was comparatively more successfully than the first round in terms of security and not any major incident was reported from any part of the country.

Second round is going to be the decisive round and masses have done their duty by going to the polling stations. Now is the turn of government and the independent elections commission to make sure that process of counting of votes and result compilation should be undertaken with absolute transparency and no room should be given for the illegal practices and vote rigging. Having a look at the stalemate of the economy and relevant activities, the commission should try its best to announce the results within the given time frame or earlier if possible because the new government should come into power in the least possible time, bringing an end to all the doubts and uncertainties about the future of country and boost up the trust of investors and traders to once again initiate the economic activities.

Whoever wins these elections; all the hopes are pinned with the new president and its government. The long-awaited and eagerly anticipated signature of BSA must be the first and foremost task of the new president so that the government should finalize the deal with the US government and completely eliminate the fears of Afghans and of the international community about the security of the country and the return of Taliban and warlords into power. It also becomes the tough task of new president to choose the most appropriate members for its new cabinet so that the promises of the service of country and the countrymen should be met and the sufferings of this nation should come to its permanent end.
