Civilian Casualties in Holy Month of Ramadan

Ministry of Interior blamed the Taliban when tens of Afghan civilians were killed and injured on Tuesday in a suicide bombing in Paktika province. According to reports, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden truck in a marketplace in Argon district of eastern Paktika – bordering Pakistan – which led to the death of at least 89 and injury of 42 civilians.

This anti-intellectualism and nefarious deed of Taliban aroused the deep concern of the public. Undoubtedly, Taliban have never stayed away from murdering civilians, including women and children, and inflicting heavy casualties in the holiest month and the most sacred place. The recent killing took place in the holy month of Ramadan which took sacrifices from children and fast observer Muslims. Most probably, Afghan people still remember the bomb blasted in a mosque which led to the death of the worshippers when the explosive was planted inside Holy Qur’an – The Sacred Book of Muslims.

Religious scholar Mawlawi Hedayat condemned the attack, saying it was against Islam's principles, particularly during the month of Ramadan. The Taliban’s brutal acts of terror have always been denounced severely by the clergy being called against the Islamic sharia. As a result, The Afghan Ulema Council condemned Taliban in angry tone when the Logar governor was killed in a mosque by the explosive placed inside Holy Qur’an last year. Hence, Taliban are widely notorious for their blasphemous acts and inhuman deeds.

The UN has condemned the attack in strongest terms. “Today's appalling attack during Ramadan – an occasion that should observed in a spirit of peace and compassion – should be condemned in the strongest possible terms and the perpetrators must be held accountable,” said the Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, Ján Kubiš.

To take a retrospective look at Taliban’s regime, they ruled Afghanistan entirely by dictatorship. Afghan people still wince at the tragic memory of Taliban’s regime and their bloody war. In other words, Taliban militants murdered thousands of innocent Muslims without feeling a tinge of guilt. The ghost of Taliban’s nightmare yet haunts the hearts and minds of Afghan people. Their unconscionable acts, heinous crime and attitudes towards men, women and children were against Islamic law.

Taliban have always used Islam as a shield to justify their inhuman acts. Despite killing innocent civilians, particularly women and children, they still pose as righteous individuals. But their cruelty and anti-Islamic actions are no more in mystery and will be condemned by anyone with their sensible mind. The recent civilians’ casualty is one of the ugliest acts of terror that has ever happened.
