Think Twice Before Continuing a Detrimental Trend

The Taliban and pro-Taliban circles appear to have been working with one another to eliminate those who are against the twin phenomena of Talibanism- a fundamentalist and tribal line of interpretation of Islam that allows suicides to terrify people- and ethnocentrism that is based on attempt for domination over people born into different groups and grow up with different cultural identity through intimidation and exclusion of them.

For instance, Professor BurhanuddinRabbani, who was against the violent and militant interpretation of Islam promoted by Taliban, was assassinated in a suicide bombing at his home in Kabul on September 20, 2011.

Other commanders and forces that advocate equality and brotherhood such as General DavodDavod and JawadZahak were removed by the evil forces. The two phenomena of Talibanism and ethnocentrism have been a main source of conflict. Those following ethnocentrism and Talibanism can use any tactics and means to achieve domination or implement the kind of Sharia they want to be enforced in the society.

Ethnocentrism can get currency in a country where a particular identity group feels that it is a majority and thus has the right to rule over the others.

The people belonging to such a particular group will do their best to stand against or derail the democratic process because in a democracy popular will manifesting itself in ballots cast in an election is the base to determine who to rule, not the presumed and illusionary natural right of a self-imposed majority.

They define national interests in a given country synonymous to what benefits people of their own blood, skin, culture and race. There have been some great forces that have tried to promote the thought of recognition of all the diverse cultural and social groups that reside in a country, and their equal rights.

The political marriage of the above phenomena will propel the people that remain loyal to those phenomena towards adopting a dangerous politics of intimidating those who want be recognized and have the right to win an election and bring political reforms to ensure a permanent stability.

Such a trend will no longer be successful. It is time for the followers of this trend to think twice before attempting to defame someone who has the people supporting them in their advocacy for a more democratic system.
