Ethnic Supremacists and Polarization of Society

After President Karzai ordered dismissal of Chief of Academy of Sciences and three of its other staffers on the publication of Ethnography Atlas which included contents extremely insulting and offending to a particular ethnic group, the Attorney General has launched an investigation and seized 400 copies of the book from the Academy building.

There was a scuffle between officials from Attorney General Office and the main author of the outrageous chapter about Hazaras, Syed Amin Mujahid. He is being called a national traitor who has attempted to dent national unity and fuel ethnic disharmony promoting clashes.

It was a welcoming and swift move by President Karzai. However, it is symbolic. Several hundred copies of the book have been distributed among intellectuals and people outside the Academy. The chapter about Hazaras includes extremely insulting comments. One cannot believe it was published by a government academic institution.

Though the Chief of Academy of Sciences has been dismissed, the real manipulators behind this fascistic attempt are other officials. Author of the chapter that caused public reaction is Syed Amin Mujahid who is unfortunately trying to defend his supremacist bigotry and some TV channels known for ethnic agendas and owned by elements with ethnic politics are supporting him.

President Karzai must dissolve the entire Academy of Sciences and the real manipulators behind the book that could cause ethnic clashes must be trialed and punished. It is not a mistake or new attempt by some supremacists with sick minds. This mentality has been persistent in Afghanistan since the day of the country's birth.

There are some elements with agendas and mentality of exclusive ethnic superiority and supremacy around President Karzai. They are responsible for extreme polarization of our society.
