Rain and Deplorable Kabul Streets

Nowadays roads of the capital are presenting view of flood-hit ruins. Muddy water flows over streets due to the recent raining. The roads have no proper system for diverting rain water and it presents a scene of ravine and flooding on roads and streets. The Kabul Municipality should take immediate notice of the cumbersome situation.

There is no proper sewerage system and the dirty poisonous water of drains comes out on roads, making a severe stench in the atmosphere causing several diseases. It’s a disgusting hard walk for pedestrians on roads because of the muddy dirty water presenting the view of pool on roads. Besides the ineffectiveness of the Municipality, we also have a problem in behavior of people.

Despite knowing that driving fast on roads with dirty water, it would splash on the pedestrians, the drivers never care and accelerate the gear of their vehicles while crossing the broken unpaved roads, splattering the muddy water on people, particularly students and office-workers with their shiny dresses fashioned early in the mornings.

It is ridiculous to see all the newly paved roads are soon broken due to the poor quality of material used by corrupt contractors who use low quality material for road construction. Millions of dollars come for these projects, but still we see the flow of water on all roads after some rain.

In main central parts of the city where they have made some drains for sewerage water, the canal system is not connected well and designed for problems like overflowing of water in raining days. The Kabul Municipality must pay attention on the deplorable condition of roads in the city and ensure that construction companies use quality material so that roads are not broken soon after they are built in mega-million projects.

In the large slum areas of the capital, there is no sewerage system at all and people use very traditional ways for toilets which cause health problems. The Kabul Municipality must lay out a comprehensive sewerage system for the capital well connected with all slum areas and central parts of the city. The current situation of roads presenting view of flood-hit ravines is very annoying for citizens.
