Green on Blue Raids, Afghan Security Forces’ Training Suspension

Since the removal of international combat troops is scheduled by 2014 and in order to prepare Afghan Security Forces for future responsibilities of security take over; the US Special Operation Forces planed to exhaustively train ANSF so as to get them ready for a successful transition of security responsibilities.

Afghan National Security Forces have increased recruitment rates by more than 60,000 in 2012. Currently the number of Afghan Security Forces reaches around 300,000 and the government of Kabul is expecting to increase the ranks up to 352,000 by the October 2012.

But the recent increase of Green on Blue raids have raised up question and have caused the suspension of ongoing training of ANSF by U.S. Special Operation Forces for an unknown period of time. "We will resume our trainings and efforts, but currently the training programs are suspended temporarily so as to revet the current active members of ANSF for future regulation of such incidents," Said Col. Thomas, the spokesman for NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

Afghan National Security Forces in green uniforms are the close counterparts of international forces during the security operations in the country. Along being the trust worthy faction, there have green on blue raid reports during the last some years.

The green on blue attacks have doubled this year and the figure has reached 45 international coalition forces who have been killed as a result of insider attacks by insurgents disguised in green uniforms or by some culprits in Afghan Security Forces.

The green on blue attacks have been the featured topics of the talks during the last few weeks. Afghan officials believe that it is not Afghan Security Forces behind the incidents; in fact, it is the result of infiltration of foreign agencies within Afghan Security Forces.

Though the involvement of the foreign agencies in such attacks cannot be neglected, it is also important that the government and international forces must see the other possibilities as well.

It is better advised that the government should go through a thorough assessment of the issues in order to figure out the roots behind the incidents that why Afghan Security Forces have been attacking their coalition counterparts. Finally, the training suspension in a situation when the country is facing uncertain future can be concerning for future state of affairs.

In order to regulate the future incidents, it is better to keep on the trainings along with locating the culprits responsible for such attacks.
