Heedless Expenses

This is a rather painful fact that Afghan economy is in the initial stages of its growth and expansion and most of our needs are met by the aid made by our allies. Without any such assistance, we might not be able to meet our financial requirements and thus the whole system can fall into its knees. This would then depict a very drastic and horrific picture when the whole infrastructure of democracy and peaceful transition will fall down and country will fall victim again to the militants and tyranny.

It is the call of time that we need to work very hard to strengthen the economy so that we should be self-dependent and stop relying on others for our needs. This can be achieved by two strategies; one by decreasing our expenses and being very careful in making expenses and secondly, by increasing opportunities so that more and more industries should be established and revenue must be generated in the form of taxes.

Unfortunately, we have failed to realize the importance of saving and wealth of public is spent in a very careless manner. It is a general observation that government officials use vehicles which are luxury and expensive.

Now this has become a trend that all the ministers, directors or other senior officials keep with them a convoy of vehicles which are all brand new and luxury. This condition is very surprising for a country which depends on others for almost all its expenses and where savings for future mega-projects are direly needed.

Similarly, some government offices are functioning in some rented houses in posh areas of capital, rented on very high prices and every year, a lot of public money is uselessly spent on their renovation and decoration. In the present circumstances, government offices need to be a model of simplicity so that general public should also be motivated to develop a habit of saving.

Some foreigners are left in surprise and disbelief when they see government officials moving in such luxurious cars. According to them, in developed countries of the world, government officials use the most economical cars so that more and more money should be spared for the public development projects.

In order to strengthen the economy and be self-dependent, it is necessary that all of us should adopt the habit of saving and this responsibility first rests on the shoulders of government employees and ministers. The common public hopes that government would formulate directions so that only economical vehicles would be purchased for government officials and their offices would be moved to relatively cheaper houses.
