Bloodshed in Kunduz

Continuously, Afghans witness extremely deadly and carefully-planned attacks by Taliban insurgents in various parts of Afghanistan taking toll on daily basis. There have been deadly attacks in Kabul, Kandahar, Jalalabad, and Kunduz provinces recently.

The Northern province of Kunduz is getting increasingly insecure. Suicide attack that took place in Kunduz on Monday, September 10, killed at least 16 civilians and injured 20 others. Killed and injured people include women and children.

Last month 12 people died in Kunduz province in one of several blasts at the end of the Muslim month of Ramadan. Such acts of brutality establish the fact that Taliban are committed to continue bloodshed and harm peace and stability of our country.

The overall growth of Taliban in Afghanistan is not something secret – even a lay man observes the changes. The efforts by NATO and Afghan forces at the cost of lives of thousands of military and non military people have been unsuccessful to stop the growing insurgency in the country.

North, especially the Kunduz province is getting more insecure. Kunduz province was the center for Taliban's activity in North. In the recent years, the Taliban have been attempting to make their grip firmer in Northern provinces by target killing important government and political figures.

In the main city of Kunduz the people are worried about their lives, properties and acquired gains. As tensions increase, people in Kunduz say they're being forced to take sides. Some families are reported to have sent one son to join the Taliban in case the militants gain control of the region.

Taliban are increasingly motivating the people to join them and have started a country wide campaigning. Before reaching the climax the Taliban have to be stopped from forming strongholds in north and their activities be reversed in other provinces of Afghanistan.

Growing insurgency is not only an immense threat to the Northern provinces of Afghanistan but it may also jeopardize peace and stability of Central Asian States. Whether by negotiation or intensification of military operations the people of Afghanistan need peace and are not in favor of more clashes and conflicts.

Afghans have the right to know what the government is doing to protect their lives beyond 2014 – the date set for withdrawal NATO troops. The announcement of withdrawal of military forces from Afghanistan, according to many, has given some moral support to the Taliban and increased concerns of the Afghans.
