Hazaras – the Vulnerable Victims of Sectarian Conflicts in Pakistan

Hazara community has witnessed yet another incident targeted attack which gunned down four innocent shop keepers from Hazara community members in the scrap market of Quetta city, Express News reported on Tuesday, 16, Oct, 2012. As usual the incident has been reported to be a sectarian attack and the attackers managed to escape the scene.

Since 1990, Pakistan has been turning into a state of agony for its minorities. The sectarian violence, which the security authorities have basically claimed to be among the Sunni's and Shia's has, in fact, killed thousands of innocent people including, and which was publicized in a report last month, pointed out that that those responsible for law enforcement in Balochistan were involved in killings the Hazara community members.

Though there is no solid evidence to prove the involvement of security authorities in creating tension among the citizens, but considering the ongoing situation in which the attackers with no fear attack and manage to escape the scene is questionable. Moreover, as the terrorist groups such as LeJ claims the responsibility on most sectarian attacks on Shia communities, security authorities do not take any action against them.

It is for many decades that Hazara people have been living in Pakistan. They have dedicated holy services in different areas of civil services and army fields. They are well known of their hard work, dedication to education and civilization. They have been symbol of peace and devotion throughout the state history.

Many of them have devoted their lives to defend the state territories. But alas, it seems like the authorities of Pakistan are neglecting the constitution which was basically structured on the bases of a land of peace and prosperity where anyone is allowed to live freely.
