Nobel Prizes for 2012

The Nobel Committee of Sweden announced its prestigious prizes for outstanding achievements in the field of science (like Physics, Chemistry and Biology), economics, literature and peace. These prizes are announced every year for scientists, authors and peace-promoters who have worked remarkably in their respective fields and benefitted the humanity from their research or helped good literature be read and promoted from their outstanding writings.

Except for the peace prizes (which is always a bit controversial), winners of the rest of the prizes are given due respect. Winners are awarded with a diploma, a gold medal and a sum of money which changes from year to year. For 2012, it was announced to be 1.2 million US Dollars.

The winners get the attention of media and they are interviewed and invited to the different programs. This is not only the recognition of their sincere efforts and struggle but also brings name and fame to their families and countries.

As expected, this year's prizes were again acquired by the scientists of developed countries with American scientists staying ahead and joined by scientists from France, Japan and England. While the Nobel Prize for literature was awarded to a Chinese writer.

Apart from fame and monetary gain, these prizes are good indicators of efforts of different nations in the fields of science and technology. Countries that have succeeded in establishing a sound educational system and where due attention is given to the field of Research and Development usually win these prizes. Achievements in the field of science and technology not only make the world a place more suitable to live and have a comfortable life but scientists also try to bring end to the miseries of humanity from different diseases and epidemic.

It is a moment of great concern that none of the Muslim scientists has succeeded in making any such achievement since many years. It not only shows the ignorance and indifference of Muslims towards science and technology but one also understands why Muslims are such backward in almost all the fields of life.

It is necessary that all the nations of the world should work to strengthen their educational systems and give more attention towards scientific research so that the miseries of their masses should be controlled by the achievements of their scientists.

Similarly, it also gives an important message to the Afghan government that solution to all the problems of the country lies in the promotion of quality education.
