The Prospective of Women Rights

Violence against women recently has changed into headlines of newspapers. Few days ago, a man named Mohammad Anwar killed his wife by piercing knife in her body in the western province, Herat. However, the story is quoted differently. It is said that his wife was employed and he did not like that. While some others are saying that he is a drug addict and he wanted to force his daughter to prostitution. His wife opposed which ended with her life.

Recently, there are various reports about violation of women rights. Honor-killings and domestic harassment have increased across the country. With the rise in concrete and comprehensive investigations about why violence against women has increased, women activists and protective laws for women have also increased.

No doubt, the Afghan society is in the process of fundamental change. Afghan women have larger participation in the society. Though, the initial floods of emotions and sentiments have decreased and people have taken a reactionary stance against women participation in the society. But we witness a creeping change in social structure that prepares for acceptance of women. In many big cities, common people's concept of women has undergone fundamental change due to exposition to circulation of ideas and theories put by liberal wings.

Several demonstrations by women rights activists and active highlight of the issue by civil society has sent electric shock down to backbone of conservative culture. However, there are larger honor killings and domestic violence, but there is no report that such things did not exist before. Many such cases also were widespread but could not find way into press. Now thanks to revolution of media, reports of violence are released with blink of eyes that also in detail. Now the situation is much promising.

It shouldn't be ignored that Afghan partly has opened and accepted creeping change. The presence of women in educational and civil society is considerably visible. Women have also become courageous. They do not avoid going out, fearing public harassment. Now, they dare to go out and men are also accepting them. If the situation goes without major reversal move as a result of political and security situation, the prospective for women rights is promising.
