Hazaras’ Relentless Mass Massacre

Hazara community in Quetta, Pakistan is under continued siege of terror. Peace is short lived and incognizant to them–the period between two deadly incidents is called peace. Over the period of thirteen years more than 1200 Hazaras are subjected to terror of terrorists who are operating at will.

Ninety days hardly passed from former Hazara town tragic incident, when an explosive laden water tanker ripped through the entry of Abu-Talib road that claimed lives of over hundred innocent people. The Sunday night brought mayhem, when a suicide bomber blew himself at the most populated avenue, Abu-Talib raod, the heart of Hazara Town. The deadly suicide blast claimed 30 lives and left around 70 wounded.

The explosion killed 28 people and wounded 70 people belonging to the ethnic Shia Hazara minority on Sunday. Two of the wounded later succumbed to their injuries at the military-run Combined Military Hospital on Monday morning, raising the death toll to 30.

Sources said that an unidentified man on a bicycle tried to enter the area and when people standing near the barrier tried to stop him he blew himself up. Local sources stated the city reflects mini-military camp, security checkpoints are found few meter distant apart. Even then, perpetuation of such awful incident airs serious questions.

The following day, all 30 victims of a deadly suicide bombing in Quetta’s Hazara town were laid to rest amid tears and loud cries. According to the local sources the newly elected Chief Minister of Baluchistan was on an official trip to Islamabad. The kit and kin of victims of Hazara Town Blast were expecting issuance of targeted cleanup operation against culprits seeking safe sanctuaries at some points in the city by the Chief Minister or Prime Minister of Pakistan. Following the previously set code, they resorted to condemnation only.

The banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, (LeJ) as usual, vociferously claimed responsibility for the attack stating such coward acts will continue in the future. According to local sources the security agencies extend patronage to such out-fit organizations, otherwise without the consent of security forces a fly can’t make a flight. How can a suicide bomber get into the heart of Hazara Town dauntlessly and successfully slaughters innocent men, women and children?

Subsequent to general elections, enormous expectation was linked to the new setup installed in the province that it could deliver and would resolve issues related to law and order and ultimately succeed restoring peace in Quetta the provincial capital of Baluchistan. Nevertheless the consecutive incidents continued unabated manifests the state of affair is hard to be reversed. The absence of political will might be one of the obstacles restraining the targeted operation launched against the culprits of Hazara mass massacre. The hapless Hazaras of Quetta tends to enquire “when will their mass massacre end?”
