Taliban Continue Bloodbath

As political leaders continue holding unending negotiations on electoral alliances, Taliban continue butchering innocent Afghans across the country. In an attack on Ghazni Provincial Reconstruction Team seven people were killed including four police on Wednesday last week. A suicide bomber stormed the entrance of the PRT, and another group followed with gunfire. Over 35 people were critically injured. Most of them were civilians including six children and five women.  Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack saying the bomber entered the building with a car explosion.

Meanwhile, another bomb attack in Lashkar Gah targeting an ISAF convoy killed three civilians wounding 15 others in Helmand on Wednesday. Seven children were among those wounded.

These slaughtering of innocent civilian Afghans adds into the war crimes list of Taliban. We strongly condemn the act of cowardice. They do not spare even women and children in their inhuman campaign of bloodbath and terror.

The inhuman act of terror killing dozens of innocent Afghans show what Taliban want for the future of this country. Terror is their way and they will face the wrath of masses, since the Government seems not to be bothered with the daily loss of lives of ordinary people.

The government on one side release notorious militant commanders and on the other side release token condemnation statements as usual. How long will the innocent civilian be massacred and butchered by the Taliban? Why there is no outrage across the country on deaths by Taliban, but only when there is a clash on border with Pakistan or Iran? Our selective outrage has emboldened the Taliban to continue terror as their weapon to suppress people into submission.

Despite their claims, militants don’t show any respect for civilian life and improvement in protection for them. For propaganda, they issue statements about protecting civilians, but in practice they use indiscriminate destructive weapons.

During the last 12 years of current conflict after the US/NATO arrival in Afghanistan, Taliban have been responsible for larger civilian casualties. Whenever a roadside bomb, landmine blast or suicide bomber blow among crowds, its ordinary poor civilian Afghans who suffer the most.

A group of militant ideologues justify such merciless killing of civilians by the pretext a holy war against invaders, while others completely deny they are responsible for civilian casualties.

Taliban kill civilians every day. People never bother to come out to streets chanting against Taliban when their suicide bombers kill only breadwinners of poor families. They have made hundreds of children orphan and women widow, but the guardians of our national honor never come out of the shell of hypocrisy to condemn such atrocities. How long will this continue?
