Mess Up at Kabul Airport

Kabul airport has made remarkable improvement in the previous years. Number of passengers has increased remarkably and now, large number of flights either land or leave the airport. When the numbers of passengers were less, there was not any problem but with every passing day, the pain and disturbance is increasing for passengers. First big problem is the uncoordinated and repeated security checking and clearance. Due to the sensitive security conditions of our country, such measures seem to be inevitable but at Kabul airport, this gap has been filled by unnecessary and repeated checking instead of better coordination and management. Passengers flying outside the country pass through 11 body and luggage checking and scanning. At the same time, the domestic fliers also go through 8 or even more checking at different parts of the airport. The luggage of customers are scanned at 5 points and according to some sources, this is the worst airport in the world with such repeated checking and scanning. According to informed sources, different government organs like customs, intelligence, police and other security organs have their separate setup of security clearance and there is not present any kind of link or coordination between them. No organ trusts the other and thus, a passenger has to repeatedly go through the painful process of checking and clearance. On the other hand, most of the people handling these things work and behave in an amateur manner which worsens the case. It has also been noticed that policemen and some other airport employees have not been trained to behave politely with the passengers and some harsh and rude behaviors have been noticed by some passengers. There are large number of employees (especially the policemen) standing at the same point and making unnecessary rush and disturbance. They not disturb each other by cutting jokes to each other but are also a burden on the economy of the country.

With all these problems, airport has become a place of extreme irritation and tiredness for the passengers. They don’t feel much tired with their in-flight journey but with the time spent during the security clearance at the airport. It is the reason why, passengers are advised to arrive three hours before their flight to the airport and in this way, people waste their time waiting in the lines at the airport.

It is the call of time that government should make necessary arrangements to bring more professionalism and use those advanced techniques that ensure the smooth functioning at the airports. For this purpose, services of an international expert can be hired. It is also necessary that the process of checking and clearance should be made more coordinated and easy in a way that passengers should be duly checked at one or two points and remaining unnecessary checking points should be removed. It is hoped that concerned authorities will take serious steps to solve the problems of passengers.
