Mismanagement in Loya Jirga

Keeping aside the negative and positive points about LOYA JIRGA, the security measures taken by security forces and concerned ministries have not only crippled the whole city but also resulted in great rage and anger among the public.

The area where this gathering is going to be held has completely been blocked while large numbers of small and big roads and streets have been blocked which has resulted in multiplication of a lot of problems for the common public.

The northern part of the city has completely been cut off from the eastern and western parts and people spend many hours in traffic jams on the roads that connected different parts of the city. These road blocks have created many problems to the common public.

People reached hours late to their offices, dozens of patients suffered by being stuck in these traffic jams and students could not make to their educational institutes on time. This resulted in very low attendance in different offices and government organizations and educational institutes, resulting in their decreased performance.

On the other hand, the council of ministers announced public holidays from Tuesday till the following Sunday and security and traffic jams were given as the reasons for these holidays. It is strange that the Loya Jirga is going to start from Thursday and roads have been blocked from almost a week before all these. In the light of the threats by Taliban to carry out attacks on this gathering is ominous but that never grants permission for anyone to disturb the public routine and bring pain and distress for the public.

At the same time, it also shows that our concerned ministries are not capable of arranging any such mass gathering and instead of tackling the situation with professional techniques, they have just relied on blocking all the roads and creating problems for the people of the city. In all these events, one more thing became clear that our concerned authorities had not made a good planning about the security and especially the traffic arrangements of the event which resulted in immediate failure of traffic flow and of course, the public routine.

Because of all these holidays, the exams of students of schools got late for a week and school authorities will have to re-schedule all their programs in order to save the precious year and time of students. On the other hand, the students of polytechnic university, where this Jirga is being held, have missed many months of their education and majority of the students are not happy of this.

All these frustrations gave good lessons for all the concerned ministries for being more professional in arranging such events in future. At the same time, it is necessary that public holidays must be announced after much consideration and sensitive decisions should be taken by the supreme executive only.
