Policemen, Not Slaves

It is a general observation that policemen are being deployed for the personal works of their officers, VIPs, ministers and other high-ranked officials. These policemen are found to be working just like private guards or security personnel of these government servants. They are found to be carrying out different activities like opening the gate, bringing the children from school or markets, bringing food stuff for the house of their boss and even watering the plants which are not suitable for their title and dignity. On the other hand, they are treated very badly by their superiors and at times, we hear of the torturing or physical punishment of the policemen by a politician, a minister or a high-ranked officer. At the same time, such inappropriate utilization of policemen makes negative impact on their image in the eyes of public and they lose the importance and the dignity which they hold in the eyes of public.

The policemen and other security personnel are meant to protect the borders and keep security within the cities and towns. They are trained in a way that they should be able to protect the lives of citizens and maintain order and discipline in the country. When security personnel perform their duties, the country remains in the proper shape and development and resultant stability can be achieved. It is a sad scenario that our policemen and some other security personnel are being used for works which are not included in their core responsibilities. Because of this, the security condition in the country is not satisfactory and it may also be included among the numerous reasons for the faltering situation of law and order in the country.

No doubt that police and other security personnel are responsible for the security and protection of ministers and other important organs of governments but it is also necessary that they should not be treated like slaves in the hands of their superiors. This treatment of policemen has also made them hate their work and the people for whom they work and has brought down their general morale in this regard. It is feared that if same inappropriate treatment of policemen continued, they may become rebellious and may work against their understood code of conduct. It is the duty of top government and police officials to ensure the proper and dignified posting and utilization of policemen and other security personnel so that they should act more effectively in safeguarding the borders and maintaining peace and order within the borders.
