The Continuity of Ambiguity about BSA

The indefinite destiny of Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) is lurking further into Kabul-Washington fogy relation as President Karzai is not moving an inch back from his stance. In a conversation with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, he said his stance was based on experience the Afghans went through over the past 12 years, calling on Washington to demonstrate sincerity in meeting Afghanistan's legitimate demands. "Afghanistan's stance originates from its experience of past 12 years and Washington should demonstrate sincere intentions about Afghanistan legitimate demands." Pointing again to his demands, he said Kabul was willing to ink the deal with Washington, but raids on Afghan's homes should be stopped and peace efforts should practically be started before the agreement was inked.

His emphasize came as a MP from Parwan province alleged that 14 civilians, including children and women, were killed as result of airstrikes in the province. As usual, President Karzai condemned the incident and demanded that air strikes on Afghans’ houses should be stopped immediately.

Though NATO and Afghan security forces confirmed the air operations in the area but said the operation was led by Afghan security forces. The operation was carried out by Afghan security forces and when they encountered harsh resistance from penetrates, they called for NATO help. NATO bombarded particular locations after losing a soldier which might have led to civilians’ casualties. Despite unacceptability of civilians’ casualties that President Karzai rightly emphasized on, it is necessary to ponder upon the destiny of BSA.

It is also important to note that the lives of civilians have never been taken care of even by some among the ruling elites. Individuals who are presently riding black armor vehicles were once brandishing rockets and firing toward the opposition without least care about the loss of lives of children and women. If officials are brought to a transparent, independent and fair court of law, only a very ignorable number would be acquitted. The rest would be charged of having blood stain on their sleeves.

It can be claimed with certainty that the human rights activists in military involved countries are far larger and far powerful. Their politicians are much more careful about civilians in order to remain in power. During war of Iraq and Afghanistan, several soldiers were brought to justice for Afghans and Iraqis. Similar thing has not been made or even tried for by Afghan government.
