Presidential Election and Certain Concerns

Since Sunday, the face of Kabul city has changed with huge photographs of presidential candidates. On the very first day of campaign, five of the candidates who have the highest chance to win the election held large gatherings in luxurious hotels to present their programs for the future if they become the elected president. However, part of Kabul residents were expressing irritation over changes made due to colorful pictures of the candidates, but generally all have vested much hope about upcoming election. Many view it as the most vital election which, if goes uninterrupted, may define the roadmap towards peace and prosperity or it may drag the country into the depth of historical mayhem.

In large gatherings that were arranged the supporters cheered in a manner that no one could feel the deep down fear and worry that each Afghan has. They are worried that President Hamid Karzai does not let the country go towards the miseries on the very days he is saying farewell to palatable presidential seat.

He kept very close ties with neighboring countries about whom often told NATO officials to take serious steps. He got money from CIA and Iran at the same time. Nobody questioned him that as your statements at the back of the stage reflect your suspicion of both eastern and western neighbors and even you expressed openly, how you can receive money and what you have given them in return.

President has repeatedly stated that the election would be free and fair. However, to make such an election possible, it is really necessary that there should be practical measures. The lip service alone would not do the task. Moreover, it is necessary that the international community must also be taken in confidence to provide the level of assistance that is required.

President has been claiming that US, NATO and Taliban are talking from the same stance against the current Afghan administration. However, NATO and US claim that they have made huge sacrifices to institutionalize democracy and help Afghan government stand on its own. There seems to be a widening gap between the government and international allies and the need of time is to make honest efforts to narrow this gap so as to have better elections and better relations chances of peace and tranquility.
