Intra-Afghan Dialogue Undertaken To Restore Peace

Peace is the ultimate necessity every Afghan longs for, over decades. In order to draw in the stalled peace process, a tangible and pragmatic approach is required to further the derailed peace process. Taliban and Afghan government have been in state of war for over a decade that has resulted in devastative causalities and irreparable harms to war torn country. It is contemplated to work out a peaceful solution to ongoing conflict to put an end to the bloodshed. Afghanistan has always expected US or Pakistan to help them furthering peace talks with Taliban who positively responded to the call of Afghan government.

Both Pakistan and US keeping their promises inaugurated a political office of Taliban in Qatari capital Doha – the display of positive note facilitating intra-Afghan talks. In the bid to further peace talks seemingly Pakistan has contributed by releasing several Afghan Taliban inmates with inclusion to Mulaah Bradar, the second commander of Taliban after Mullah Omar.  Moreover, the gradual release of Taliban detainees is a positive gesture that Pakistan’s cooperation with Afghan government will continue. It has been the latest push to break a stalemate in Afghan reconciliation process. The Pakistani head of government Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated its unconditional support to Afghan led peace process in the trilateral summit formerly held in Ankara, Turkey. However, Afghan government doubts both US and Pakistan for derailing peace talks instead of furtherance.

Recently the rumors of intra-Afghan dialogue surfaced that was denounced by Afghan Taliban spokesman Shahidullah Shahid. This development is ascertained by credible Taliban ex-minister while talking to Pakistani based outlet Express tribune. Demonstrating a shift from their earlier stance, dozens of senior Afghan Taliban leaders have reached to decision to move for holding a dialogue with President Hamid Karzai to reach a political solution for Afghanistan following withdrawal of foreign troops by the end of this year.

This is the first time a senior Taliban leader has publicly announced to hold talks with the Karzai regime and begin the intra-Afghan dialogue. It will be premature to expect much from this process, but it could win support in and outside Afghanistan in view of the drawdown.

The Taliban leader ascertained the specific address for intra-Afghan dialogue to avoid a civil war after NATO troops withdraw will soon be announced.

Reportedly the Taliban senior leaders organized a meeting in UAE discussing a congenial solution to Afghan rift. The meeting of Taliban leaders intimates Taliban realizing the need for a peaceful solution in ending up rifts which serve not Afghans’ interest. According to reports Dubai meeting was attended by former Taliban cabinet ministers, four senior diplomats and top military commanders who had been involved in fighting foreign forces. This should be noted that peace can only be installed if Taliban unconditionally accepts withholding human and women rights and Afghan constitution as it is.
