For Ministries of Defense and Information Technology!

There have been reports of considerable increase of those videos and images on internet and different social networking sites where terrorists are shown beheading or treating brutally the members of police, national army and other security forces. These videos or images are posted on these sites where they are publicly available to be seen by anyone and large numbers of Afghans also have access to these sites. It is also a frightening fact that immature teenagers or even children, who can use computer at homes, have also seen these videos or images.

These videos or images are taken by the members of terrorist groups on different occasions when they captured, imprisoned or killed any police or national army personnel. In the same way, there are also present some videos in which the mistreatment of the prisoners or dead bodies of terrorists by our police or army members are shown.

Both of these images give very negative message to the public. Videos, in which the brutal treatment of police and army members by terrorists are shown, increase the fear of public about them and may work to demoralize the members or relatives of our in-service security personnel. According to some technology experts, some of these images or videos may be fake and may have been made to increase the fear of public and make them more disappointed about the skills and abilities of our forces and of course, the future of the country.

On the other hand, the videos in which our forces are shown to be doing mistreatment with the prisoners or dead bodies of terrorists also make a negative impression about them. Many people, especially those living in rural areas with strong influence of Taliban and objective of defaming the forces, can use these to spread general hatred against them. Just like the other videos, some of these videos have also been found to be fake and fabricated.

On the other hand, the war of comments that starts on these sites in favor of and against either Taliban or security forces is very harmful for the national integrity and works to pollute the perceptions of people about the security forces.

The first responsibility lies on the shoulders of ministry of defense to strictly forbid the soldiers from filming the events followed after a military operation or investigation. Then, it becomes the duty of ministry of information technology to check the health of these videos on the internet and keep a vigilant check on such things so that any effort of foreign hands to diminish the image of security forces in the eyes of public should be thwarted.
