President Karzai on Saturday, participated in 8th march celebration. While asking women to take part in upcoming provincial and presidential elections, he said that he was elected as president by votes of Afghan women. He said that if women were not there, foreigners might have already taken me down in 2009. During 2009, presidential election, the election went to second round. However, recently it appeared that American officials did not hate to witness a change in the leadership of the government. Meanwhile, he stressed that despite visible achievements during his presidency in the sphere of women rights, he confessed there were a lot to be accomplished. He strongly condemned violence against women and asked participants to name his new born girl baby who was born in an Indian hospital few days ago. One of the participants gave the name of Marwa Bahar and President Karzai willingly agreed.
One of the important point of his speech once again highlighted his differences with the United States over Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA). With tone of not much change, he said that if Afghan man has any power, they should practice it not against women but against Americans and roughnecks. Putting United States beside roughnecks, he indirectly pointed out that Washington is bullying him in this regard.
Currently, both Washington and Kabul have become disappointed of each other. During last 12 years, President Karzai often stood harshly against Washington. He forced US to hand over the responsibility of Bagram prison from where he released numbers of Taliban prisoners who, according to Afghan and foreign intelligent officials, were highly dangerous. But he said that the prison was al-Qaeda making factory. Afghan individuals were, he added, collected from across the country and put in jail, tortured without any reason.
In addition, he rejected the views of analysts those who say that US military withdrawal will cause the country relapse to pre-2001 chaos. He said there is only one way ahead: that is the path towards peace and prosperity. “The reversal path is closed and concrete”, he added.
On the other hand, Washington has also become disappointed of signing BSA with President Karzai. Despite their mounting pressure and putting the issue of zero military option, Washington may consider to develop cordial relation with new president and persuade him to sign security agreement.
