Misleading Figures from Saturday’s Elections

Since the start of vote counting on district and provincial levels, the supporters of different candidates have released fake statistics which also found way to popular local newspapers. These statistics reveal contradictory figures each candidate gained in different polling stations. They are really misleading and consequential. So, if people base their calculation on those figures, they might get sparked by ultimate result announced by Independent Election Commission (IEC), opposing those fake figures. The social networks are filled with such tricky figures. And most of them circulate among internet users which have created confusion. However, it is not clear whether the hands of candidates are behind such deceptive movements or not. But hopefully youngsters should not act in hurry and be responsible in terms of sharing figures which are not yet approved by any official sources. If we count on figures circulating on social networks, then it becomes clear that each candidate have gained more than 70 percent of total votes which is completely false, considering the division of votes among 8 presidential candidates.

Secondly, some candidates even before the election announced their victory. They talked of ultimate success without letting people to decide who should be the next President of Afghanistan. Such statements instead of helping candidates in their victory would rather distance them from civilians. In other words, such comments might make people feel that their votes are not important.

Additionally, such comments will wreak havoc among people. It means they do not pay importance to votes and idea of people who have risked their lives and casted their votes to elect the new president. If they did, they should not have announced their victory before the completion of preliminary vote counting.

Hope all presidential candidates act responsibly. They should understand that people risked their lives and some lost or will lose their lives merely because of participating in elections to vote for them. So, if respected candidates do not consider such sacrifices and continue pushing for their own personal interests, it will reveal their evil characteristics. The statement of ZalmaiRasoul after the completion of the election is appreciable. He said that he pays his respect to votes of people. If the Election Commissions confirms his defeat, he will just step away and will not cause any political mayhem. Thus, it is expected that other candidates also follow his footstep and be prepared for the result of the election whatever it would be.
