Need of Effective Military Operations against Terrorists

Saturday’s historic polls brought good name and fame for the country and Afghans. It was, no doubt, a very firm step towards democratic stability and success. For this, the Independent Election Commission, media, members of civil society and security forces deserve esteemed appreciation for their efforts to make these polls an unprecedented success.

According to the press release by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), large scale military operations were launched against Taliban and insurgents on Saturday. These operations left 176 rebels dead and 75 others were wounded. Afghan forces also defused 91 road-side bombs, while they seized one suicide vest, 17 barrels filled with explosives and many other big and small weapons. Large numbers of plans of Taliban to attack the polling stations were also foiled. In Faryab province, a suicide attacker was killed while another was arrested. All these targeted military operations of our security forces against Taliban and anti-state elements resulted in a peaceful day for polling which resulted in the enhanced participation of people in the election process.

According to the ministry, the polling day proved to be even more peaceful than other days. This achievement was achieved due to the surmounting pressure of our security forces on Taliban and terrorists in form of large scale military operations in all corners of the country. However, at some places terrorists succeeded in carrying out their heinous plans which resulted in the death of 12 policemen and four civilians while 43 civilians and 15 policemen were also injured.

This outstanding performance of our security forces is appreciable that enabled the historic polls on Saturday. But questions arise in the minds of people as why not similar arrangements are made on other days to save the lives of civilians and security forces. The operations on Saturday showed the capacity of our security forces to plan and coordinate full-fledged and effective military operations against the insurgents. It also shows that they have a good network of intelligence and informers who provide them with accurate information about the militants and anti-state elements. If our forces have such a good network of information and intelligence and they can also hit hard on terrorists, then why don’t they carry out operations on other days against the militants? It gave hope to us that our forces are capable of completely eliminating terrorists from every corner of the country, which has also been repeatedly claimed by our security forces. If our security forces have this capability, then the role of their heads regarding operations against militants and terrorists becomes dubious.

Leaving all the doubts on a side, it is the desire of a common man that our security forces should launch full-fledged military operations against terrorists and leave for them no place to hide or run and completely eliminate them from the surface of our sacred land.
