Majority of French not Confident of Gov’t Growth, Deficit Pledges: Poll

PARIS - The majority of French respondents of a survey released Monday said they did not trust the Socialist government would transform its economic and financial pledges for next year into concrete deeds.

An Opinionway poll for Le Figaro, BFMTV Business and Axys Consultants showed more than two thirds of French citizens were pessimistic about the country's economic performance, which is projected to accelerate by 1.5 percent in 2016. A total of 67 percent of them expected a figure below the official target.

As for the budget deficit, 85 percent of respondents said the forecast 3.3 percent of budget gap would be out of reach next year.

Looking to 2016, the ruling Socialists eye sustainable reversal of the unemployment trend. But 48 percent of people thought the joblessness rate would increase over the coming period, the survey showed.

The poll questioned 1,007 respondents on Dec. 16 and 17. (Xinhua)
