ANKARA - Turkey will host the 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) next week to seek ways to help LDCs, with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon to attend the meetings.
The conference will take place at Lutfi Kirdar Congress Center in the Turkish city of Istanbul from May 9 to 13, 10 years after last conference held in 2001, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
About 60 state or government heads and 100 ministers will attend the conference in an effort to evaluate development progress and boost sustainable development of LDCs.

Ban Ki-moon and Turkish President Abdullah Gul will start the conference with opening remarks, while the Istanbul Action Plan and a final statement will be signed at the end of the meetings.
Ban Ki-moon is also expected to attend the Civil Society Forum on the sidelines of the conference on May 8, along with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Nepalese Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal.
The LDCs are a category of states that are deemed highly disadvantaged in their development process. The current LDCs consist of 33 African countries, 14 Asian countries and Haiti in the Latin America and Caribbean area. (Xinhua)
