Abdullah to Host Ghani on Today

KABUL - Presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah will host opponent Ashraf Ghani-Ahmadzai at his residence Thursday, as political consultations and negotiations continue between the two candidates in regard to the formation of the "national unity government."

In his recent statement, Abdullah stated that a united, democratic government will be structured after auditing 100 percent of the votes, emphasizing that the agreement of the two campaign teams has no winner or loser.

"I think now we have a better prospect for the future of this country. One is that the technical side, the votes of the people of Afghanistan, will be counted, will be audited—thoroughly—through...an internationally supervised mechanism," Abdullah told the Associated Press. "That was the key for us because the legitimacy of the future government of Afghanistan is important."

Abdullah stressed that the U.S. mediation to break the electoral stalemate saved Afghanistan from heading toward a crisis, emphasizing that the vote auditing process will pave the way for the establishment of a democratic and legitimate government.

In addition to the candidates, the two campaign teams have also expressed optimism over the outcome of the negotiations. According to Abdullah's team, the central point of the negotiations would be the formation of a "national unity government."

"There is a possibility that Dr. Ashraf Ghani-Ahmadzai will be coming to Dr. Abdullah's residence to discuss the electoral issues as part of the recent negotiations," Abdullah's campaign spokesman, Syed Fazil Aqa Sancharaki, said.

Moreover, according to Ghani-Ahmadzai's team, both candidates have agreed to share perspectives and work jointly with the media teams.

"The achievements of the meetings are satisfactory and tomorrow both candidates will meet again," Ghani-Ahmadzai's campaign spokesman, Faizullah Zaki, said. "Both media teams have taken crucial steps to ensure the legitimacy of vote-count, continuing toward the formation of a national unity government. Later on, both teams will merge together."

Negotiations between the two candidates have reached hopeful ends , as Abdullah announced that both teams will work together regardless of who wins, confirming that a Loya Jirga will be held to change Afghanistan's presidential system to a parliamentary system. (Tolonews)
