Spirit of National Unity More Important Than Details: Abdullah

KABUL - Following the public signing of a national unity government agreement between Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Friday, Abdullah said that the spirit of national unity between the two candidates is more important than the details of their accord.

Abdullah hopes that the discussions in regards to details of the agreement with the Ghani team will start as soon as possible, but stressed the good will with which it was made is key.

"I repeat myself by saying that it is more the spirit of formation unity government, rather than those details of it, which is important," Abdullah said.

The presidential hopeful emphasized that the agreement, which was penned with the help of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, was a win-win for both candidates, as well as a victory for Afghanistan.

"We could have had another scenario, the winner takes all, or has a win, but this situation is a win not only for both camps but for the people of Afghanistan; they will see the energy, the competence and the effect of both sides utilized for the success of people and that is important," Abdullah said. "The essence of the national unity government or the political framework agreement is to make it work for everybody."

Meanwhile, analysts have stressed that the agreement between the candidates must not be short term.

"I think that if the agreement ends quickly, Afghanistan will not go anywhere, and will face problems again, both candidates must strictly stand on their agreement," said Nasrullah Sadiq Stanekzai, a University Professor.

After the first agreement between the candidates over two weeks ago, certain disputes remained over how exactly the auditing process would be carried out. But whether similar discord will unveil itself as the nationa l unity government takes form after the election remains to be seen. (Tolonews)
