Abdullah’s Team Warns Boycotting Election Process

KABUL - At a press conference on Tuesday, presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah's Chief Observer, Fazal Ahmad Manawi, warned of boycotting the election process if the camps technical demands are not met by Wednesday.

"If our recommendations are not taken into consideration by tomorrow [Wednesday] morning, we will boycott the process," he asserted. "We have discussed the election issues with the United Nations (UN) but they have not responded to our concerns," Manawi added while pointing out the camp's already rocky relations with the Independent Election Commission (IEC).

Furthermore, Manawi stated that the election process witnessed "massive and coordinated fraud" by the very people who were supposed to maintain the transparency of the process. He also claimed that there was no determination in invalidating the fraudulent votes, adding that the audit was more of a political process than a technical one. He went on to emphasize that the election process' legitimacy must be restored.

The vote invalidation process officially began on Monday when roughly 4,000 ballot boxes were adjudicated, resulting in the invalidation of 72 boxes from multiple provinces. (Tolonews)
