Nai Asks Govt. to Address Media Challenges

KABUL - Nai-Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan asked the national unity government to address challenges faced by journalists in the country.

Head of Nai, Sidiqullah Tawhidi, in a press conference said that both the president and the CEO during campaigns promised that they would support media and resolve problems faced by the journalist community.

He said that media has grown in Afghanistan considerably in the past 13 years but still there are different challenges hampering routine work of reporters.

Providing suggestions to the government he said, “As soon as possible the Media Violation Investigation Commission shall be established. The cases of murdered journalists and violence against reporters should be probed. Security of journalists shall be ensured. Before appointment of the culture and information minister, the local media outlets shall be asked for advice. The government shall not impose restrictions on media activities.”

He said that as the two leaders vowed to end graft therefore they should support media to unveil corruption cases in the government departments. (Agencies)
