Abdullah Seeks Public Support for Security

KABUL - Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday said public support to the government was necessary to ensure security and people’s confidence could be achieved with dispensation of justice.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of elders from western Ghor province. The elders urged the new government to resolve their problems, the CEO office said.

One tribal elder Maulvi Ramazan regretted the previous government had neglected certain parts of the country, despite the gains made over the past 13 years.

“We want the new administration to pay due heed to Ghor province and solve its problems,” he said, adding they had three major demands: construction of roads, power dams and a quota in government jobs.

But Abdullah responded he had always paid due attention to Ghor and had been trying sincerely to meet residents’ genuine demands based on the government’s ability and resources.

He observed big changes could not be made in a week or a month, believing believed the new government was trying to measure up to people’s expectations.

The CEO said: “The secret behind all successful governments has been support from the people and it could be achieved when the masses reposed trust in their leaders.” He promised the elders education and job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Ghor police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News the security situation had improved in the province because local forces had been equipped properly. (Pajhwok)
