Ghani Forges New Path in Pakistan

KABUL - In his first trip to Pakistan since being elected, President Ashraf Ghani, along with a delegation of around 150 Afghan political and economic leaders, made a bid for the start of a new chapter in relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Learning from the past experiences of his predecessor, Hamid Karzai, instead of focusing on meetings with senior civilian officials, President Ghani emphasized talks with military and intelligence officials. The Afghan president will leave Islamabad with new assurances that Pakistan will be an honest partner in peace talks with the Taliban.

“After years of efforts, Pakistan officials have accepted the Afghan-led peace talks and have made strong commitments to the process,” University Professor Shekib Montazeri told TOLOnews. “This opens a new chapter of policies between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and increases curity pacts signed with the United States and NATO will help fulfill the requirements of the troops.

“Each moment you are proving to the enemies of Afghanistan that their dream of collapsing our country will never come true,” Abdullah told the cadets.

Praising the active presence and performance of the security forces, Abdullah promised the military personnel that the national unity government will continue supporting the security forces. (Tolonews)
