Abdullah Plays Down Dostum’s Remarks

KABUL - In his reaction to recent remarks by First Vice-President that a 50/50 power sharing formula is not feasible in the unity government, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah said on Wednesday he had been in talks with President Ashraf Ghani only.

First VP Abdul Rashid Dostum recently said: “I have heard that Abdullah wants 50 percent share in power. That is not practicable. If we share power this way then there will be two parallel governments and two presidents at the same time. The differences will start from here and we won’t be able to work for our people, our nation, and security.”

Reacting to Dostum remarks, Abdullah said he was only talking to the president because others might be unaware of the details of the discussions. “I won’t blame anyone who is misinformed,” he added.

Ruling out any major differences between the president and the CEO, Mujib Rahman Rahimi, Abdullah’s spokesperson, said on Saturday that no new agreement could be reached to on the Cabinet’s formation.

He had said nominees for key ministries would be introduced ahead of London Conference slated for December 4. (Pajhwok)
