Public Support Vital to Peace: Scholars

KANDAHAR CITY - Religious scholars and tribal elders in southern Ghazni province on Sunday urged people to support their security forces in purging Afghanistan of terrorists.

A big gathering, arranged in Kandahar City and attended by religious leaders, provincial council members, youth and tribal elders, voiced support of Afghan security forces.

Maulvi Obaidullah Faizani, a leading religious figure, said it was a moment of pride for them that the country ultimately had rebuilt its security forces to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy.

Afghan forces had taken responsibility from foreign forces, he said, adding the nation should fully back their forces in ensuring better security, he said, asking militants to shun violence.

Haji Atta Mohammad, head of provincial peace council, called upon religious scholars to advise officials and that they had been playing a highly significant role in reconstructing the country. (Pajhwok)
