NUG Stance on Saudi-Yemen Issue “Irresponsible Act”: Spanta

KABUL - Former National Security Advisor Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta strongly criticized the National Unity Government (NUG's) support for Saudi Arabia's intervention in Yemen crises, calling it "irresponsible and dangerous decision."

"The Yemen crisis is a fight between the regional powers," Spanta said. "It's not in our interest to interfere in these issues."

Criticizing the government for what he believes "hasty and irresponsible decision," Spanta warned of devastating consequences of supporting the "war between regional powers."

"We must maintain our neutrality in the fight between Iran and Saudi Arabia in Yemen," Spanta emphasized.

He asked the NUG leaders to resolve the cabinet and other domestic issues instead of interfering into a "war between brother countries."

Spanta demanded the government to continue to its friendly relations with Iran and other regional countries.

His remarks came after the government issued a statement showing support for Saudi Arabia's involvement in Yemen crises, something that has followed serious reactions from the Parliament and civil society groups.

Calling the government's stance on Yemen war against the national interests, the lawmakers on Saturday's session asked the government to dispatch its foreign police outline to the Parliament for approval.

Moreover, the second deputy chief executive, Mohammad Mohaqiq, in an exclusive interview with TOLOnews stated that the government's support for Saudi Arabia's involvement in Yemen crises was in contradiction to the decision they made in the National Security Council (NSC) meeting.

Mohaqiq called Saudi Arabia's strikes on Yemen a violation of international laws, and asked for immediate stop of these attacks.

The violence has been spreading across Yemen as the alleged Iran-backed Houthi fighters have seized control of parts of the country which caused the President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to take shelter in Saudi Arabia.

A coalition of Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia has been targeting the Houthi fighters over the past week.

According to the analysts, the crisis in Yemen is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. (Tolonews)
