KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday reiterated that women rights would be protected during peace talks.

The president expressed these views during a meeting with members of the Afghan Women Network (AWN), a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

The Afghanistan’s 1st lady Rula Ghani was also present on the occasion, the statement said, adding members of the AWN thanked president for enhanced women participation in the cabinet and bringing Farkhunda killers to the justice.

The delegation placed their demands before the president, demanding him to appoint a woman in the council of apex court, give an independent status to women violation law, ensure a positive role of women in peace process and increase number of women in district councils.

The president said that as many as 35 women would be dispatched to Europe with the help of European Union (EU) to get leadership training. First Women University, he pledged would be built in the country with the help of Turkey.

He asked AWN members to introduce qualified and deserving women for administration of Women University.

Ghani assured that women rights would never be underestimated during peace talks. He said in the coming weeks special programs would be arranged for women’s capacity building and some women would be dispatched to foreign countries on diplomatic missions. (Pajhwok)
