Ata Mohammad Noor Dismisses Kabul Government as a ‘Show’

KABUL - The acting provincial governor of northern Balkh province, Ata Mohammad Noor, has called the governance by the national unity government leaders a show.In an interview with Reuters, Noor called on President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah to work honestly in a bid to resolve the country’s problems.

He complained regarding the lack of leadership by President Ashraf Ghani and said neither the president nor the CEO had done much to solve the problems of the country.

Noor criticized the unity government leaders for remaining reckless regarding his warnings of rising militant violence in the north. “They told me that they will take action, but unfortunately they didn’t,” he added.

“Whatever they do is a show,” Noor said, adding that “Instead, they should work honestly.”

In response to a question regarding the government’s most significant achievement so far, he chuckled “I cannot remember any successes at the moment.”

Noor is an influential political figure and the leader of Jamiat-a-Islami party of Afghanistan. He played a key role in the controversial presidential election last year and was a close ally of CEO Abdullah Abdullah. (KP)
