Northeast to be Purged of Terrorists: President

KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has noted comprehensive strategy has been worked out to regain lost areas in northern Kunduz and purge parts of northeast of anti-state elements.

The president raised the issue at the sideline meeting with the Wolesi Jirga or lower house speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and some lawmakers from Kunduz province late Monday evening.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said acting defence minister and interior minister were present in the meeting where they presented reports about the security situation of Kunduz province.

Ghani assured that in line with suggestions of lawmakers, stringent security measures have been taken to push Taliban back.

He would continue consulting lawmakers on various issues, urging them to convince people to extend all out support to security forces.

It is pertinent to mention that Chardara district of Kunduz province has been regained today morning from Taliban. The district had fallen to the group on Saturday night. (Pajhwok)
