KABUL - Spokesman of the ministry of interior claimed the ministry adopted measures to dispatch reinforcements to Afghan Local Police (ALP) in Jalrez district but the supply could not be sent to the area.
Speaking to reporters, Sidique Sidiqui said ministry of interior (MOI) and ministry of defence (MoD) initiated investigations to unearth what caused causalities of ALP men in Friday gun battle in the Jalrez district of central Maidan Wardak province.
At least 30 militants and 24 ALP men were killed and 18 other rebels wounded in Kabul-Bamyan Highway clashes in central Maidan Wardak province on Friday.
The ALP forces also lost control of 12 security posts. However, security officials had said Afghan forces regained control of all 12 posts in Jalrez district.
He said Maidan Wardak remained relatively peaceful in recent years and no major incident of insecurity noticed except this tragedy.
The spokesman without giving details said external and internal enemies of Afghanistan wanted to fuel ethnic and other kinds of mayhem to achieve their vested interests.
Brig. Gen. Dawlat Waziri, the spokesman of MoD, said a commission had been formed to investigate what caused delay in sending logistic, weapons and othere reinforcement to the soldier.
He said the commission had launched work and individual who committed negligence in delivery of reinforcement would be punished and introduced to media as well in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Earlier, a number of civil society members and bereaved family members of Afghan Local Police (ALP) who lost their lives in Jalrez attack asked government and parliament members to strictly observe performance of security institutions and impeach their heads for demonstrating inefficiency.
The demonstrators told journalists in Kabul that parliament should adopt measures to punish those security officials who demonstrated lethargy after the bloody Jalrez incident.
They demanded the impeachment of interior minister and chief of National Directorate of Security (NDS).
According to Waziri, nine Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and 16 insurgents have been killed, while 17 rebels wounded and ten arrested in different parts of the country during the past 24 hours. (Pajhwok)
