Ghani to SCO: ‘Significant Number of Terrorists Coming from Your Countries’

KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said that the majority of terrorists from Central Asia, China, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Middle East are targeting the Afghan people.

In his speech to participants of the 15th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, President Ghai said terrorism and narcotics are the two main enemies of Afghanistan and the Afghan people.

“A significant number of terrorists are coming from your countries to Afghanistan and use the Afghan soil to destabilize your countries and operate against the regional and other countries,” President Ghani said.

He emphasize on the importance of joint cooperation to identify the various dimensions of the issue.

President Ghani also warned that the terrorist groups are looking to destabilize the region and added that the terrorists do not have any political issue with the government of Afghanistan.

“Without the complete understanding of the terrorism phenomenon, it would be difficult to eliminate it from the region,” President Ghani said.

He also added that the issue of narcotics cultivation, process and smuggle is one of the other main issue being faced by the region.

President Ghani said the smugglers are gaining more from the smuggle of narcotics which forms a chain and financially supports the terrorist groups through criminal activities. (KP)
