KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani and his predecessor Hamid Karzai on Wednesday met to discuss “misunderstanding” between the former president and the unity government.

Earlier, Karzai has criticised the unity government over inking an agreement with Pakistan’s spy agency on intelligence sharing and government officials have been blaming Karzai for the current problems the government faces.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah had said most of the current problems could have been resolved during Karzai government.

He accused Karzai of ignoring important issues of national interest and had warned those wishing the incumbent government to collapse that its alternative would be Daesh or Taliban.

Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, president’s advisor on economic affairs, claimed credit for arranging the meeting between the two leaders on his Facebook wall.

Zakhiwal urged Ghani and Karzai to hold a meeting and remove the misunderstanding in people’s minds about their relations.

He said the meeting was held in a brotherly environment and both the leaders discussed issues of national interests.

Some sources say President Ghani dubs Karzai as a national leader and lauds his efforts and contributions to the country’s development during his tenure.

Ghani, however, insists the new government should be given an opportunity to serve the country and implement the pledges it had held out to the masses.

Karzai, during his meeting with Ghani, shared his concerns about multiple national issues and gave his suggestions as well.

The meeting comes a day after Mesharano Jirga members asked the unity government leaders to resolve end rivalry with the former president and refrain from criticising each other. (Pajhwok)
