Ghani Condemns Turkey Border Suicide Attack

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday strongly condemned a suicide attack in Turkish town of Suruc bordering Syria that left 31 dead and over 100 more wounded.

President Ghani called terrorism a common threat to all countries of the region and the world and insisted on jointly fighting the menace, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

The president extended his condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the families of the victims and the people of Turkey and wished full recovery of those wounded.

The Monday’s suicide attack, believed to be carried out by a woman from the Islamic State group, targeted a meeting of young Kurdish activists who had gathered in the town’s cultural centre to discuss the reconstruction of the neighbouring Syrian town of Kobane.

Kobane has seen heavy fighting between IS militants and Kurdish fighters. It was retaken by the Kurds from IS forces earlier this year. (Pajhwok)
