Make Real Efforts for Afghan Peace: China to Pakistan

KABUL - China on Wednesday called on Pakistan to make real efforts as part of the Afghanistan reconciliation process.

China’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Deng Xijun said this during a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani’s National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar in Kabul, said Tawab Ghorzang, the National Security Council spokesman.

He quoted the Chinese envoy as adding that his country had urged Pakistan to make real and honest efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Deng Xijun said China remained committed to its promise to equip and assist Afghan security forces and that Beijing supported Kabul’s policies and programmes aimed at winning peace and stability in the war-torn country.

In response, Atmar thanked China for cooperation with the government of Afghanistan in diverse fields. He said China by using its regional influence could encourage a number of neighbouring countries to support efforts at strengthening peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The national security advisor said Afghanistan desired good bilateral relations with all its neighbours and expected the same from them. According to Ghorzang, the two sides also conferred on other regional issues of mutual interest.

The Chinese envoy had pledged his country’s continued assistance with Afghan security forces in his previous meeting with Hanif Atmar. (Pajhwok)
