MoD, MoI Acknowledge Cooperation Breakdown Among Troops

KABUL - Ministries of Interior and Defense on Sunday acknowledged that there is a semblance of non-cooperation between security forces in some instances.

The Interior Ministry says there has been a noted lack of cooperation in some operations between lower-ranking officials. They also said that the lack of speed over ending some operations was a direct result of this.

Meanwhile, the MoD also accepted this and said there is at times a breakdown in cooperation.

Analysts meanwhile have said that unless government takes this issue seriously and resolves the problems, Afghanistan will face growing security problems.

Najib Danish, deputy interior ministry spokesman, said: "There is cooperation among high level officials but there are some problems among those in the lower ranks. We are trying to increase cooperation among the lower ranking officials."

Defense spokesman Dawlat Waziri said: "There is still a breakdown in cooperation in the tactical level but we held a seminar about this and discussed the issue seriously."

According to analysts, this is particularly relevant to Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, and so far threats remain.

Meanwhile, the Taliban is also active in Gortepa district in Kunduz province.

The presence of the Taliban in Helmand and Kunduz is an example of this lack of cooperation between the security forces.

Despite this issue, the intelligence section and ghost security officers are other challenges that face the Afghan military operations, said analysts.

One military analyst Mohammad Zarif Nasiri said: "The intelligence section is critical for operations so as to provide correct information so operations are successful."

Meanwhile, the so-called ineffective security strategy has also raised concerns and sparked criticism.

Nazir Ahmad Hanafi, an MP, said: "Issues remain in most parts of the government and I think the government is not taking this issue seriously."

Analysts believe that the lack of cooperation is benefiting the Taliban and allowing the insurgents to take control of certain areas. (Tolonews)
