Danish Claims Officials are Breaking the Law

KABUL - Speaking before Afghan legislators in the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) on Monday, President Ashraf Ghani's second Vice-President Mohammad Sarwar Danish said government officials and institutions are breaking the law - an issue which he said undermines the implementation of the constitution and rule of law.

Danish was addressing parliament on the occasion of the introduction of six candidates for positions of membership of the Independent Commission Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution. He also called on lawmakers to approve the candidates so that the relevant commission can start working as soon as possible.

"The violation sometimes means that the government institutions while trying to implement their authorities and duties cross the set boundaries which are interpreted in the constitution and that they act beyond their legal authority," Danish said.

"We can implement the rule of law in its real spirit on the day that the commission overseeing the implementation of the constitution is able to hold every high level government official including the president, presidential deputies, ministers and lawmakers accountable and regularly report on the implementation of the law to the people of Afghanistan," he said.

The Afghan government dispatched six nominees to the lower house to get approval from MPs on the nominees for members of the constitution overseeing commission. (Tolonews)
