Security Forces in Helmand Await Orders from Central Govt.

KABUL - TOLOnews correspondent Wali Arian who is embedded with Afghan troops in the embattled Sangin district in Helmand province reported on Saturday night that troops deployed to other volatile areas in the province are waiting for orders from Kabul to advance on Taliban insurgents.

Arian reports that air raids have however been launched against insurgents - but only in Sangin district.

Afghan forces on the ground have told Arian that the Taliban is using military equipment seized from security forces to fight government troops in Helmand.

So far however, no confirmed statistics on human casualties have been revealed.

It is now a week since Afghan forces launched an offensive against the Taliban in Sangin – after reports emerged the district had fallen to the insurgent group. However, these reports were rejected by central government officials. (Tolonews)
