WASHINGTON - "Improved coordination between Pakistan and Afghanistan along their common border is important to counter-terrorism operations and improved border security," Lt Gen John W "Mick" Nicholson, President Barack Obama's choice to take command of coalition and US forces in Afghanistan, told a Senate Committee.
In a written reply to questions by the Senate Armed Services Committee which is considering his nomination, Gen Nicholson stated the military operation being carried out by the Pakistani military in the tribal region had reduced the ability of militants to use Pakistani territory as a safe haven for terrorism.
