HPC Leadership to Be Named Soon, Announces Ghani

KABUL - Promising women’s representation in the High Peace Council (HPC), President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said the peace body’s new leadership would be appointed soon.
Addressing a large gathering marking the 27th anniversary of the former Soviet Union troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, the president said all provincial governors had been directed to celebrate the day.
He said the jihad against the Soviets was successful thanks to a strong belief in Allah Almighty and unity among ranks and files of the nation.
He said all Afghans from every nook and corner of the country went to the battlefields and joined hands to rescue the motherland and defend religious norms.
Once again, President Ghani said the countrymen were in a sensitive phase of the history where the fate of their children and coming generations was being decided.
“We are in a phase where a combined national determination and will can end the conflict and insecurity and this is the national unity government’s strong resolve. We can turn bright the future of our children and the coming generations.”
He said one of the major wish of the martyrs was peace and stability in Afghanistan. “We really want peace, a peace that equals all Afghans and makes them live in brotherhood and mutual respect.”
The president said those seeking war should understand they had chosen a wrong path, a path leading to failure and misfortunes.
Those thinking they would impose themselves on others by force and intimidation were mistaken and were considered miscreants in the society, he said.
The president said elements who were shedding the blood of people and hell bent on war and violence had no future except failure and disgrace.
Ghani said he had completed consultations regarding the HPC leadership which would be announced soon and in which jihadi leaders and  women would have a strong presence.
“Our mujahideen who were the heroes of the independence war will be the heroes of the peace procession.” (Pajhwok)
